Dark Church / Karanlık Kilise
The Dark Church, considered the most significant structure in the Göreme Open Air Museum, dates back to the late 11th century and the early 12th century.
Named due to receiving very little light through a small window in the narthex section, the church's frescoes retained vibrant colors. The church and narthex boast rich decorations depicting the Bible and the Prophet Jesus.
Some of these depictions include "Journey to Bethlehem," "Birth," "Baptism," "Resurrection of Lazarus," "Entry to Jerusalem," "The Last Supper," "Betrayal," "Jesus on the Cross."

Outskirts of the Open Air Museum, the largest and oldest rock church in the region. Dating back to the late 10th and early 11th centuries. Its most striking feature is that it has the Virgin Mary fresco with the purest beauty you will ever see. The walls feature scenes from the life of St. Basil, depictions of various saints, and mostly scenes from Jesus' miracles.

Sandal Church / Çarıklı Kilise
The Çarıklı Church dates back to the late 12th and early 13th centuries. Scenes depicting the life of Jesus, the Torah scene showing the hospitality of the Prophet Abraham, and depictions of saints and donors are well preserved. Although it resembles the Elmalı and Karanlık Kilise, the crucifixion and removal from the cross scenes of Jesus are the church's unique features. In addition, scenes of "Birth", "Adoration of the Magi", "Baptism", "Resurrection of Lazarus", "Entry to Jerusalem", and "Ascension of Jesus" are depicted on its walls, along with images of Mary and the child Jesus and the Archangel Michael.
